The puppy buying process

At Vanguard Gun Dogs, we take a selective approach to breeding, producing only one or two carefully planned litters each year with a focus on placing puppies in dedicated hunting homes. The first step in reserving a puppy is to give us a call to talk about what you're looking for and what we can provide. A deposit secures your place on the list, and selections are made in the order deposits are received. Families choose their preferred gender at the time of reservation, and individual puppy picks follow the deposit order.

Our puppies are whelped and raised at our kennel, remaining under our care until they join their new families at 8 weeks of age. During this time, they follow a structured program of vaccinations and deworming, receive a wellness exam from a licensed veterinarian, and are microchipped for permanent identification.​

Each puppy comes with full registration through both NAVHDA and the AKC. We strongly encourage new owners to remain active in NAVHDA by running their dog in the Natural Ability Test before 16 months of age. This experience provides a valuable assessment of your puppy’s potential while supporting the continued mission of breeding proven, versatile hunting companions.

We spend a great deal of time with our puppies each day, taking them outside often and exposing them to new sights and sounds. From an early age, we also begin working on basic commands to help set the foundation for training and good manners.​
