Vanguard Gun Dogs was formally established in 2023 based on 25 years of owning and hunting behind German shorthaired pointers. In 2013 we became actively involved in NAVHDA and were introduced to the DC Hillhaven's Hustler X Wendy vom Enzstrand line of GSP's championed by Sundance and Friedelsheim GSP kennels. Decades have been spent creating this line and the goal of Vanguard Gun Dogs is to produce GSPs with the following traits:

Vanguard Gun Dogs promotes its dogs through NAVHDA and AKC hunt tests. However, while these tests are good indications of manners in the field, we strongly believe the ultimate test for a true hunting dog is on wild birds.
The Kennel
We are located in North Carolina, just west of Winston-Salem. On the farm we have a pond and also maintain several fields with native warm season grasses for training and evaluating dogs. We spend a lot of time hunting in North Carolina, where we primarily target woodcock, ducks, and quail. In addition to evaluating the dogs on wild birds at home, we also take several trips out west each season to states like Montana, South Dakota, and Kansas. Out there we can see how the dogs perform on the open prairie while targeting sharptailed grouse, Hungarian partridge, prairie chickens, pheasant, quail, and ducks. By seeing how the dogs work in these varied environments, we are able to fine-tune our breedings with the ultimate goal of creating the perfect wild bird dog.
